Dark Matter [Glacier]
Dark Matter is a sculpted mixed media artwork that invites the viewer into a mysterious, otherworldly dimension. Roeper spent 18 months experimenting with and developing this finish. The astonishing feature is that it's not a singular, opaque color- it is a luminous, warm silver tone with a metallic glow that is in constant flux depending on how the light hits it and where the viewer stands. As Roeper puts it, "I don't think of this as a color- it feels more like a mood, or some kind of other dimension."
The textured surface, covered in white gold leaf and encased in a thick layer of clear resin, creates the illusion of gazing through a window into another universe. As with all of Roeper's pieces, the work gently draws the viewer in, encouraging quiet contemplation. Dark Matter is very versatile in it's ability to either blend in with surrounding art and furniture or to stand alone as a focal point.
